You Had Your Marshes

This poem is a tribute to the American poet, Lorine Niedecker.

Plover...

You had your marshes, where you waded, not in water, but in words.

Blackhawk...

Your plumage like that of a plover; with forage and storage; so many poetic eggs in a nest.

Island...

Moving hither and yon, a run-and-pause method to your movements, a diversion strategy.

Wisconsin...

Under the water, waves of the subconscious, trickling into streams and rivulets of dreams.

Paean...

Objectively logical, illogically expressive; forever rational and evermore real.

To...

Making noise when danger invaded your private place, your cherished space.

Place...

We have that in common, you and me.

You, the solitary plover.

Me, the solitary lover.

Creating new worlds with our words.

We have our marshes.

Solitary...
